G0310 Modbus to HART Gateway – Modbus RTU to HART Protocol Converter with 4-20mA Output

What This Gateway Does

The G0310 connects Modbus RTU devices to HART networks. It’s a protocol converter that sits between the two systems. On the Modbus side, it communicates over RS485. On the HART side, it provides a 4-20mA analog signal with digital HART communication.

This is the HART counterpart to the G0306 (Modbus to DP), G0307 (Modbus to PA), G0313 (Modbus to FF). Choose G0310 when your control system speaks HART or when you need both analog and digital output.

The gateway reads data from Modbus devices via RS485 and maps it to HART dynamic variables. It supports 4 dynamic variables (Primary Variable PV, Secondary Variable SV, Third Variable TV, Fourth Variable QV) and 6 device variables. The data is then available as both a 4-20mA analog signal and digital HART communication.

For detailed configuration examples, refer to the G0310 configuration guide.

Who Uses It

System integrators connecting Modbus devices to HART-based control systems. Plant engineers who need to bring Modbus data into existing HART networks. Anyone running mixed protocol environments where Modbus instruments need to feed data into a HART DCS or PLC.

The gateway also provides a 4-20mA analog output, which means it can replace traditional analog transmitters while adding digital HART communication.

What’s Inside

The gateway supports:

  • 4 dynamic variables (PV, SV, TV, QV)

  • 6 device variables that can be mapped to dynamic variables

  • Modbus master functionality (reads data from Modbus slave devices)

  • 4-20mA analog output

  • HART digital communication

  • User-configurable Modbus communication parameters

The gateway acts as a Modbus master on the RS485 side. It reads registers from Modbus slave devices, scales the data, and maps it to HART dynamic variables. These variables are then available as the 4-20mA analog output and digital HART communication.

The mapping between device variables and dynamic variables is fully configurable through the HARTMPT configuration software.

For more details on the configuration software, see the HARTMPT configuration guide.

Physical Installation

The gateway is DIN rail mountable. Dimensions: 99 x 22.5 x 114.5 mm. Housing is polyamide PA6.6 with polyester epoxy coating.

Fiação:

The G0310 has two power sources:

  • HART bus power: 12-42 VDC

  • RS485 communication power: external 24V DC

Use shielded twisted-pair cables for both sides. The terminal distribution is shown in the manual.

Internal Load Resistance:

Terminals 13 and 14 connect to a 250Ω internal load resistance. This resistance is not connected to the internal circuit. You can use it to replace an external resistor in the HART loop, making it easier to connect a HART modem directly to terminals 13 and 14.

Jumpers:

Two jumpers are available on the board:

Jumper Função
JP1 Low (green) Failure alarm current setting – no insertion or underside = high alarm (≥21.75mA); upside = low alarm (≤3.7mA)
JP1 WrD (red) Configuration protection – underside or no insertion = writes enabled; upside = writes disabled

Saturation Output:

When PV exceeds the range limits:

  • Above upper limit: output 20.8mA

  • Below lower limit: output 3.8mA

For wiring diagrams and terminal definitions, refer to the G0310 installation guide.

Topological Connection

HART transmitters can be connected in two modes:

Point-to-point connection:

  • Device address is 0

  • Mix of analog and digital communication

  • Can connect to upper control system through AI input module or HART communication device

Multi-point connection:

  • Up to 15 devices in short address format

  • Current is fixed at 4mA

  • Only digital communication (no analog output)

  • Connected through HART communication device

The G0310 supports both modes. For point-to-point mode, set the address to 0. For multi-point mode, addresses 1-15 are available.

Configuration Software (HARTMPT)

The G0310 is configured using the HARTMPT software developed by Microcyber.

Instalação:

  1. Double-click the setup file

  2. Click “Next” through the installation wizard

  3. Select installation path
