The HART (Highway Addressable Remote Transducer) protocol is a widely adopted communication standard in process automation, enabling digital data transmission alongside traditional 4-20 mA analog signals. One of its key features for improving efficiency is Burst Mode, which allows field devices to periodically broadcast process data and diagnostics without constant polling from the host system. This mode reduces communication overhead, lowers power consumption in devices, and provides faster updates—making it valuable for real-time monitoring in industrial environments. This guide explains Burst Mode in detail, including its operation, configuration, trigger mechanisms, and differences between wired and wireless implementations.

The MC0312 from Microcyber is a compact, high-performance embedded core module designed to bridge legacy Modbus-RTU devices with modern Ethernet-APL (Advanced Physical Layer) networks. Compliant with the 10BASE-T1L (IEEE 802.3cg) standard, it enables seamless upgrade of existing Modbus-based field instruments (such as temperature, pressure, flow, level transmitters, and actuators) to HART-IP protocol over Ethernet-APL.This module supports bus-powered operation, 10 Mbps communication speeds, and cable lengths up to 1,000 meters—making it ideal for hazardous process automation environments requiring long-distance, two-wire Ethernet connectivity.

Why Microcyber Is Trusted

In the world of industrial automation, open communication standards ensure interoperability, reliability, and future-proof performance. Microcyber’s technology portfolio is deeply rooted in internationally recognized FieldComm Group protocols and certification processes, delivering robust industrial communication solutions you can trust. FieldComm Group is a global industry standards organization dedicated to developing, managing, and promoting communication technologies that enable digital transformation across process automation industries. It governs key standards such as HART®, WirelessHART®, FOUNDATION Fieldbus®, and FDI® and maintains the official Product Registry for certified devices.

In the rapidly evolving world of industrial automation, instrument manufacturers are under increasing pressure to deliver smart, connected devices that support mainstream protocols like HART, WirelessHART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus (FF), PROFIBUS, and emerging standards such as Ethernet-APL. Developing these capabilities in-house requires significant expertise, time, and investment. This is where professional OEM/ODM partners like Microcyber come in—providing proven, certified solutions that accelerate time-to-market and reduce risk.
